Zachery Ty Bryan is back in the headlines after another arrest in Eugene, marking the sixth time he has been taken into custody in the past five years. The former Home Improvement star, known to many as Brad Taylor, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly violating his probation linked to an earlier domestic violence conviction. Jail records show the actor is being held at Lane County Jail without bail and is expected to be released on December 3.
His fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, was also arrested and booked at the same facility. According to the records, Cartwright is facing five charges, including driving under the influence, three reckless endangering counts, and an attempted first-degree assault charge. She remains in custody as of November 30.
Authorities have not confirmed whether Zachery Ty Bryan or Cartwright have legal representation, and no official comments have been issued on their behalf. This arrest adds another layer to a long string of legal troubles that have followed Zachary Bryan in recent years.
His most recent arrest before this incident happened in January, when Myrtle Beach police charged him with second-degree domestic violence. A police report said a woman claimed he assaulted her, noting that the two share children and live together. She told officers that he “choked her and punched her in the face multiple times,” and mentioned that others were present during the incident. It was later confirmed that the woman involved was Cartwright, with whom Bryan shares three children.
Earlier in 2024, Zachary Ty Bryan was arrested twice on DUI charges. Police records show the first incident happened in February, followed by another in October. These cases added to a growing list of legal challenges that have built up over the past few years.
In 2023, Bryan faced multiple charges including fourth-degree felony assault, third-degree robbery, and misdemeanor harassment. He eventually pleaded guilty to felony assault in the fourth degree, which was classified as domestic violence. Instead of facing a potential prison sentence of nearly two years, he received a reduced outcome of seven days in jail and thirty-six months of supervised probation. This probation is still active and not set to end until October 2026.
Going back to 2020, Bryan was arrested after reportedly strangling his then-girlfriend at an Oregon home. He pleaded guilty to two domestic violence misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to probation. Despite these repeated incidents, Cartwright publicly showed support for him in 2023, saying that trauma leads to difficult circumstances and asking for privacy for the sake of their children.
Before his legal troubles took center stage, Zachery Ty Bryan was widely recognized for his role on Home Improvement, appearing in all eight seasons alongside Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson. He also made guest appearances on shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Boston Public, Center of the Universe, and Veronica Mars. He later appeared in The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift in 2006.
In a 2023 interview, the actor admitted that finding steady work after the sitcom ended in 1999 was “actually really difficult.” His career challenges, combined with repeated legal issues, continue to keep him in a turbulent spotlight.
