The company may quietly extend backup camera coverage after millions of recalls, suggesting it’s finally fed up with its own mess.
More than 10 million vehicles across the United States have been affected by recalls related to rearview cameras. Ford has been responsible for a large portion of these, recently announcing yet another recall, this time involving 1.4 million vehicles whose backup cameras may not function properly.

It seems the automaker is getting tired of issuing such recalls, and according to a report from Ford Authority, it plans to extend the warranty on these cameras to 15 years.
While Ford hasn’t officially confirmed the new warranty program, it’s expected to include vehicles affected by previous recalls, as well as those that haven’t yet been called in for camera repairs.
This is great news for customers, as they will no longer have to wait for Ford to issue a recall if they experience a problem, and can simply call their local service center to get it fixed.

Several Ford vehicles have experienced rearview camera problems in recent years. The most recent models affected include the 2015 Explorer, Flex, Escape, Taurus, C-Max, MKZ, MKT, and Mustang models. In this recall, all affected models will be eligible for a free replacement camera. If the 15-year warranty proceeds as reported, it will offer eligible owners the same peace of mind as a recall replacement, including free repairs if the defect is confirmed by the dealership.
However, this approach presents a logistical challenge. Ford will need to maintain a large stock of camera units to keep up with replacements and avoid repair delays.
Ford has been one of the worst offenders when it comes to camera-related recalls. As we reported earlier this year, it has issued 35 recalls affecting 4.6 million vehicles since 2018.

Since that count, Ford has added significantly to that number. In September, the company recalled 1,456,417 vehicles, and earlier this month, it recalled another 1,448,655 vehicles. In May, the company also recalled 1,075,000 cars, trucks, and SUVs due to faulty backup cameras.
These figures suggest that despite the extended warranty, Ford’s camera-related problems are far from over.
