This concept is smaller than the Mazda2 and fully embraces AI
The Japan Mobility Show is underway, and Mazda has pulled the wraps off the new Vision-X compact. It’s a stylish city car that looks like a smaller version of the Mazda2.
Like the Vision-X coupe, the compact features a fully enclosed grille with illuminated fangs and a glowing Mazda logo. We can also see small headlights, digital side mirrors, and clean bodywork.
Mazda hasn’t revealed much about the car, but it features black cladding and aerodynamically optimized wheels. It also has a panoramic glass roof and a rounded rear end.

The concept measures 150.6 inches (3,825 mm) long, 70.7 inches (1,795 mm) wide, and 57.9 inches (1,470 mm) tall, with a wheelbase of 99 inches (2,515 mm). This means it’s 10 inches (255 mm) shorter than the Mazda2 and has 2.1 inches (55 mm) less space between the wheels.
The minimalist design continues in the cabin, which features a flat-bottom steering wheel and a circular digital instrument cluster. Interestingly, this model lacks an infotainment system as drivers are expected to use their smartphones instead.
In terms of technology, Mazda envisions this concept having an empathetic artificial intelligence that acts as a companion. The company said this will allow people and cars to “form an emotional connection, just like in a true friendship.”

Despite sounding a bit like science fiction, Mazda says they are actively working on this because they want to create a “true connection between people and cars.” As they explained, the AI will act like a friend and say things like, “That was a good merge,” or “Hey, remember you mentioned that cafe last week? There’s a fun back road that will take us there.” The company further stated that the AI will be able to learn and ‘read’ your mood, so it can play the right playlist at the right time. It can also remain silent when you don’t feel like talking.
While all of this is still in the future, Mazda is taking some steps toward it soon. In particular, Gemini will replace Google Assistant in future software updates. This promises a smarter and more helpful experience, as Gemini will be able to understand more conversational commands.
