Xfinity Outage Disrupts Internet Across the U.S. Sunday Evening
By Jordan Grim

Thousands of Xfinity by Comcast customers across the United States faced internet and TV outages on Sunday evening, leaving homes and businesses temporarily offline. Reports of the Xfinity outage began flooding in around 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time, according to data from DownDetector.
The outage affected multiple states, including parts of Michigan and several major metropolitan areas. Users reported losing both internet and cable TV service, with many taking to social media to share their frustration and search for updates.
Posts across X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit described sudden Wi-Fi disconnections, frozen TV screens, and disrupted streaming sessions. One customer wrote, “Xfinity down again right in the middle of football—unbelievable.”
Another user shared, “Third time in two months. Can’t work or stream when this keeps happening.”

By around 8 p.m. Eastern, users began reporting that their Xfinity internet service was slowly coming back online. Comcast confirmed that service had been restored but did not provide details on the cause of the disruption.
While the outage lasted roughly half an hour, it hit during a high-traffic time for internet use, when many households were streaming sports, gaming, or working remotely. Some small businesses also reported challenges processing payments and accessing online systems during the downtime.
As of Monday morning, Comcast has not issued a formal explanation or apology for the outage. Its support channels experienced delays and increased traffic as customers tried to confirm whether the issue was regional or nationwide.
For many, the disruption was a reminder of how dependent daily routines have become on stable internet access. From online classes and remote work to live entertainment, even a short break in service can create ripple effects across homes and businesses.

If your Xfinity internet has not yet returned, Comcast recommends restarting your modem and router, or checking the Xfinity outage map for updates on service restoration in your area. Customers can also use the Xfinity app or call customer support to confirm localized maintenance or technical issues.
